How to keep Spiders out your home!

The UK is home to a variety of spiders. During the warmer months, most spiders remain outdoors, feeding on the abundant insects, but as temperatures drop, typically around September and October, they often venture indoors seeking mates and warmth and while most UK spiders are harmless and merely seeking refuge from the cold, for those with Arachnophobia or homes with False Widow Spiders this can pose a problem.

  • House Spiders are often found in corners and crevices, house spiders are usually harmless but can be a nuisance. Like all spiders they can bite and carry pathogens, but bites are not particularly common.
  • False Widow Spiders of which there are six species known to be resident in the uk these being: (Steatoda nobilis, Asagena phalerata, Steatoda bipunctata, Steatoda grossa, Steatoda albomaculata, Steatoda triangulosa) are identifiable by their black or brown colour and a distinctive white or lighter band around the front of their abdomen however their markings do vary considerably.
  • Preferring to secrete themselves in high places such as around porches, fascia’s etc, they feed on flying insects both inside and outside buildings.
  • Although they are venomous, False Widow Spiders are not particularly aggressive unless provoked, at which point they may give a painful bite similar to a Wasp or Bee sting, the venom is considered to be of low toxicity but may occasionally result in a bacterial infection. In the UK, there have been no fatalities linked to False Widow bites

Our Spider Pest Control Process

Arachnids possess a highly rigid exoskeleton, which makes their elimination challenging without proper knowledge and equipment. At Lincspest, we employ a dual approach of heat and chemical treatments to address spider infestations

  1. Inspection: We begin with a thorough inspection of your property to identify the type of spiders, their entry points, and nesting areas.
  2. Treatment Plan: Based on the inspection, we develop a customised treatment plan that includes safe and effective methods to eliminate the spiders.
  3. Spider Extermination: Our specially designed heat treatment process penetrates inaccessible cracks and crevices reaching temperatures of up to 180 degrees, instantly killing spiders and their eggs. The chemical treatment involves an insecticide certified for arachnid control. Once dry, the insecticide continues to protect the treated area, and you are safe to use all areas of your house.
  4. Follow-Up: To ensure long-term success, we offer follow-up visits and ongoing monitoring.

DIY Spider Prevention Tips

  • Keep It Clean: Regularly clean your home, focusing on corners, cellars, and attics where spiders are likely to hide.
  • Seal Entry Points: Check for and seal cracks, gaps, or holes in walls, window frames and doors.
  • Reduce Clutter: British spiders love cluttered areas. Keep your home clutter-free.
  • Use Natural Repellents: Essential oils like peppermint, tea tree, and lavender may deter spiders. Mix with water and spray in areas where the British spiders are seen.
